if you dont use distilled water then this is a must! You will not get any of the white cloud that you would using tap water. That white cloud is not very good for any electronics! Using this product is very simple and very economical.

The water in my area is horrible and every time I use a humidifier it would build up and die. This filter works. It save me the time and hassle of buying a new humidifier because the hard water in my area. Great for my babies penguin humidifier.

We have hard water and all humidifiers that I have used in the past have left a chunky or dusty white coating around the mist dispenser area of the humidifier. I did not have that problem with the Crane and I believe it is because I bought the filter with the device and used it right away.
Great humidifier for the price January 7, 2008
I bought this for my wife to use at her "crash pad". She is a flight attendant based out of New York and was experiencing problems with dry winters in New York, especially coming from Baton Rouge. She told me that it was very simple to set up in her bedroom and that it is very quiet in operation. It worked as intended and she now doesn't wake up with sinus headaches. We would strongly recommend it.

the humidifier itself can run without the filters. if you already own some water filter. you can fill the humidifier with filtered water yourself.
