I bought this humidifier for my brother-in-law as a gift. He has asthma and has problems breathing while sleeping at night. Since he has been using this product, his sleep has become very comfortable and he is extremely very happy. In addition, this humifier barely makes any noise. I have one in my son's bedroom and now I'm going to buy another one for my own bedroom. I love this humifier and appreciate Holmes for making such an excellent device. I have read some bad reviews about it in terms of refilling it as it's not possible to make it stand. This is correct but I don't care about this problem as it has a lot more plus points. I manage to refill it from my bath tub without any significant difficulty. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a great product for a good price.

I have owned several humidifiers in the past and decided to purchased the Holmes HM495 because I was tired of paying for replacement filters. I've owned it for 3 months. Here are the top things that I think make this a 5 star humidifier:
1. Handles hard water exceptionally well (no white dust). My water is rated 'very hard' and I have never had a problem.
2. No replacment parts or filters. Just add water. You do need to buy some white vinegar and use an old tooth brush to clean out the base weekly, but that only takes 2-3 minutes.
3. Very quiet. On the highest setting you can barely hear it.

I went through 3 humidifiers until I finally found this one. My mom had the same one so I knew it was good before I bought it but couldn't find it at any local stores so tried to find something that compared. I couldn't. The humidifier is extremely quiet.

For all of you having trouble filling the tank, try using a plastic water jug! It's much easier! Bet you never thought of that! (The only reason I thought of it was because I use distilled water!) Distilled water makes a huge difference in helping to keep the unit cleaner longer. Thank goodness, NO FILTERS TO REPLACE!!!

I am quite satisfied with this humdifier...we have two now and they are working fine. No leaks. Very quiet. Love that I can see the fog coming from the machine...a good visual. :) Anyway, I also love the no filter factor. The tank of water lasts a long time running at half speed.
